Register for SMS (10DLC)
Register your brand and messaging campaign with the US and Canadian carriers so your Speko numbers are cleared to send SMS.
US and Canadian carriers require every business that sends application-driven SMS from a local number to register under 10DLC (10-digit long code): a verified brand (your business identity) plus an approved campaign (what you send and how people consent). You fill in two forms once, then assign your numbers.
Make sure you meet the prerequisites first — SMS enabled for your workspace, a Speko-managed number, and your business details.
1. Register your brand
Open Settings → SMS Compliance → Brand and complete the three sections:
| Section | Fields |
|---|---|
| Business identity | Legal name, Display name, Entity type, Industry, Tax ID / EIN, Website, Support email, Support phone |
| Business address | Street, City, Country (US or Canada), State (Province for Canada), Postal code |
| Authorized contact | First name, Last name, Email, Phone |
Notes:
- Legal name must match the IRS record for your EIN exactly — this is what the carriers verify. If you recently renamed your company, register under the name the IRS still has on file.
- Entity type options: Private company (for-profit), Public company (for-profit), Non-profit organization, Government entity, Sole proprietor. The Tax ID / EIN field is hidden for sole proprietors.
- Phone numbers must be in E.164 format (for example
+15551234567). - Submit brand saves and submits in one click. Identity verification usually completes in minutes to a few hours.
The status badge moves through Draft → Under review → Verified. If the carriers reject the brand, the badge shows Action needed with the rejection reasons — fix the details and resubmit.
Statuses don't refresh on their own. Click Resubmit brand to pull the latest verification status from the carriers — it re-syncs your existing brand and is always safe to click.
If verification fails
The usual cause is an identity mismatch: the legal name, EIN, or address doesn't match IRS records. Check the rejection reasons shown on the Brand tab, correct the details, and resubmit. If you believe the details are right (for example, a recent legal rename that hasn't propagated), contact the Speko team with your IRS EIN letter (CP 575 / SS-4) — we can appeal through the carrier compliance queue.
Enhanced vetting (optional)
After the brand is submitted, an Enhanced vetting section appears. A third-party vetting score can raise your messaging throughput and unlock more use cases; the review takes 1-7 business days. It is never required — skip it unless you need higher volume.
2. Submit your messaging campaign
The Campaign tab unlocks once your brand shows Verified. Describe what you send and how recipients consent:
- Use case — pick the closest match: Agents & franchises, Customer care, Account notifications, Two-factor authentication, Delivery notifications, Security alerts, Marketing, Polling & voting, Public service announcement, or Mixed. Appointment confirmations and reminders fit Account notifications.
- Description — what the messages are and who receives them.
- Opt-in flow — how a recipient consents. Example: "Customers book an appointment by phone and verbally agree to receive a confirmation text and reminder texts for their visit."
- Keywords & auto-replies — the START / HELP / STOP keywords are prefilled; write the three auto-reply messages. Include your brand name in each reply, and make the STOP reply confirm the opt-out.
- Sample messages — at least one, matching what you will actually send. Include your brand name and opt-out language:
MoonAI: your visit is confirmed for Jul 3 at 5:00 PM at 123 Main St. Reply STOP to opt out.- Content & links — flip the switches if your messages contain links or phone numbers. Links require an example URL. Privacy policy and terms URLs are optional but speed up review.
Click Submit campaign. The badge moves through Draft → Under review → Active. Carrier (TCR) review takes 1-7 business days — if it's urgent, tell the Speko team after submitting and we can ask the carrier compliance team to expedite.
Submit the campaign once. Unlike the brand button, resubmitting a campaign registers a brand-new campaign with the carriers — each one carries recurring carrier fees. Only resubmit after an actual rejection (Action needed), and after fixing the flagged details.
3. Assign your numbers
Once the campaign is Active, open the Numbers tab and click Assign next to each number that should send. The badge moves from Not assigned through Pending to On your campaign, and the Overview tab confirms the workspace is cleared to send.
On the Phone Numbers page, the SMS column tracks the same state: Not configured → Pending → Assigned.
Shared brand
If Speko has enabled the shared 10DLC campaign for your workspace, the Overview tab offers Assign a number directly — your numbers ride Speko's registered brand while your own registration is optional or still in review. You can move numbers from the shared brand to your own campaign later with one click.
What happens after registration
Your numbers are now legally cleared to send SMS in the US and Canada. Head to Send messages for the current sending options, or automate all of the above with the API.
